There are a couple things going through my mind from Fan Fest, so let's hit it up: BULLET POINT STYLE (actually they are dashes but Bullet Point sounds cooler)......
-The lack of Promotional items
In previous years at Fan Fest, the promotional schedule, and some of the items being given away that year, were set up right as everyone ran up the steps after entering Petco Park. This year, it was noticeably absent. Even the pocket schedules that they were giving away hardly had any info in it. If you saw the Padres & Pints with Tom Garfinkel that I posted yesterday, I questioned him on that and he said they were striving for more "quality" items over "quantity" this year. I'm 100% on board with that. I'm never one to get rid of anything Padres, so if you currently open my closet you will be quickly attacked by a sea of Padres rally towels from last year. Beerfest will be back in 2012 with a "maybe" regarding Octoberfest. There is a vague schedule up on the Padres site now.
-Throwback Uniforms
This year there will be three different throwback days. One for the 70's, one for the 80's and one for the 90's. Garfinkel also said that three uniforms from each era will be posted online soon and the fans will be asked to vote on which one they want to see for each game. It'll be interesting to see which ones are picked. The 80's and 90's choices are pretty limited, but the 70's have many different ones to choose from.
-The Garage Sale
I bought quite a few things at the Garage Sale this year, but the thing I love most is the old Padres Report Newspapers I got. Those things are pure gold. Geoff Young from Ducksnorts & I just couldn't stop reading them. Reading up on old articles about top prospects, free agent signings and even a Gary Coleman article for when he shot the Kid from Left Field here. Did anyone else buy any of these? I almost bought the whole batch (they were .50 cents a piece!) but A) I didn't want to be greedy and B) I didn't want to carry them around all day long. I'm thinking a post is in order regarding these. On the topic of greed....Really?!?! "Dude who bought about 6 Anthony Rizzo bats & grabbing whole rows of hats without looking at the sizes first". It's a shame that some people had to buy up stuff to sell online, when other people (and kids) would die to have something like a game used bat to put on display at their house.
-The lack of beer in Padres and Pints
So the Avenger-in-Chief, Geoff & myself consumed a couple Ballast Point beverages throughout the day. We even started to call the guy selling them by his first name (Tim) instead of "hey beer guy". What we didn't do was get any footage whatsoever of us purchasing the beers, consuming said beers, the stand itself or the aforementioned Tim. Consider that ball dropped by the entire Padres and Pints crew and it will never happen again.

-The mysterious Beavers jerseys
It was fun tormenting the Avenger-in-Chief all day long regarding his Portland Beavers jersey with the number 50, whom he had no clue who it was. Bryant from Woe, Doctor! told me who the player(Joe Thatcher), so I threw out hints all day long. "That left sleeve is really worn down." "That must have been a big dude". "Have you ever seen an egg THATCH?" At one point after interviewing Garfinkel, I saw Joe Thatcher walk by as AIC was wearing the jersey. It could have been an awkward conversation. Speaking of which, I bought a 2007 Red/Black Beavers jersey with the number 43. I have no clue who it is either and neither did the Padres stat guru Geoff. So if you have an old program, help me out. It has to be a smaller dude....perhaps even a bat boy, since I can fit in it.
-Masur is swinging
It was announced that Andy Masur will become a swing man this year for Radio AND TV. I love me some Andy Masur and I'm looking forward to seeing him on TV this year, but this just puts an even weirder spin on the whole TV situation. Is the entire TV crew coming back? I've heard the Dick Enberg and Mark Grant will be back, but haven't heard anything in regards to Tony Gwynn and Mark Neely. If so, that's a big TV crew and seems like it could get quite confusing at times.
-Beau kissing up to Garf
A funny moment off camera, was when Beautown went out of his way to make a point of telling Tom that he was wearing the new Alternate uniform and that he loved it. Garf jokingly called him the "Vocal Minority" of RJ's Fro.
-Waynes World
I had a Waynes World hat & wanted to sign off by saying "Party on Garf".....but completely forgot about it. Ball. Dropped. Again.
-The TV Deal
In the interview, at one point I state that I wouldn't ask him for the "7,000th time what the status of the TV deal is" and he thanked me. I know at times that I've been a thorn in his side ever since taking over in San Diego, but that has to be annoying answering the same question over and over again for months on end. As the guy who oversees all the off-field stuff I can guarantee you that the second he can release details he will do so. It's currently February 13th and we are less than 2 months away from Opening Day. Don't you think he would love to tell all the fans what station they could watch the team on, the same team that he's trying to sell you? His hands are tied right now people.
-@Matthewverygood
Lastly, as a Padre fan, everyone should know Matt by now. He's a good dude and can often be found wearing Yoda on his back. I briefly got to meet his mom at Fan Fest before parting ways and she is a very sweet lady. I ran into him again when it was time to get Trevor's autograph but we quickly had to leave and meet up with Tom Garfinkel at that exact time. Perhaps if we stuck around he would have had a little better picture than this. Then again, the story that picture tells is worth a whole lot more, as is. Gotta love moms.
