baselinecutWelcome to the fourth edition of The Base Line Cut, otherwise known as the BLC. It's a bit like a BLT, but without the tomato. Here we'll be taking a look at what is popping around the NBA, with a particular focus on the quality sites across the Bloguin Network. Happy Friday!

  • This season the Chicago Bulls truly have suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (yes, that was a Shakespeare reference -- pat on the back to you for picking that up). They started out the season in terrible fashion and by late December, there was talk that Vinny Del Negro would find his dismissal notice under the Christmas tree. Somehow of course, the Bulls turned things around, just to make things interesting. Now they find themselves in a battle with Miami, Charlotte and Toronto for a playoff spot.

So what do they do? They once again have slumped into a rut after the all-star break. Derrick Rose has injured his wrist and it's all doom and gloom again for Bulls fans. Brand new Bloguin site Da Bull's Eye has a great breakdown of how the rollercoaster ride of a season has been.

Meanwhile, despite the adversity, Kirk Hinrich is still finding ways to make fools of other people.
  • As we've discussed here this week, the Los Angeles Lakers sit in a contentious moment of their season. They have been anything but convincing as potential champions in recent games and thus their three-game Pacific road-trip which starts tonight against the Phoenix Suns, will be interesting, if not vital. With Malice previews the Lakers' game against the Suns, including discussion with Seth Pollack of Bright Side of the Sun.

Suns Stuff't, the Suns site that aptly uses apostrophes like Amar'e Stoudemire is sending them out of fashion, also has their thoughts on the Lakers match-up

  • The Los Angeles Clippers are once again in dire straits, off the court as much as on it. You have no doubt heard that Mike Dunleavy Sr has been given his marching orders, this time in his Head Office role. Zach Harper and the gang discuss this development, along with the state of Kenyon Martin's knee and other shenanigans in Episode 83 of the Weekly Fix Podcast at Talk Hoops.

  • Here is a quick look at a teaser trailer for NBA Jam on the Wii from Hoops Manifesto

  • Mo Williams of the Cleveland Cavaliers has seen significant drops in almost every statistical category since returning from shoulder surgery. Stepien Rules takes a deeper look at the statistics and analyzes the situation.

  • Wendell Maxey interviews Carl Landry, now of the Sacramento Kings, about his travels around the league. Landry is a guru of the box scores, as he uses them to keep up with old friends around the NBA.

  • Cleveland's "Lebron tests positive for steroids" runs the headline at Slanch Report. Despite him being suspended by the league for 50 games, Cavaliers fans can take their hearts out of their mouths. The athlete in question is Steven Lebron, the Cleveland Indians minor league baseball catcher. Apologies.

  • The San Antonio Spurs sit seventh in the Western Conference standings, fighting off the Portland Trail Blazers for playoff positioning. Project Spurs asks will the Spurs be able to turn the corner?

  • Minnesota Timberwolves news and links here.

  • Ricky at Sixers 4 Guidos says that the Philadelphia 76ers are taking tanking to new levels.

  • Former Boston Celtics favorite/nemesis Antoine Walker is now playing in Puerto Rico and he's doin' fine, shooting fours.
